Ads for our Future launched it’s inaugural public interest advertising campaign shedding light on the unjust plight of Linda Martin, whose story has reached over millions of people thanks to a $100,000 digital advertising grant provided through Topple Ad Network.
Linda Martin’s heart-wrenching ordeal began when she entrusted her life savings of $40,200 to a well-established safe deposit box company in Beverly Hills, boasting state-of-the-art security measures. However, her trust was shattered when the FBI unexpectedly raided the business, leaving her savings in the government’s possession. Despite having committed no wrongdoing, Linda, along with hundreds of other box renters, received forfeiture notices from the FBI, indicating the government’s intention to seize their property indefinitely, without offering any specific reasons.
The vagueness of the notice and the lack of due process rights raised serious concerns. Linda, in her distress, unknowingly chose the first option on the complex form, “file a petition for remission,” only to realize later that the FBI held the sole discretion to decide whether she would get any of her hard-earned money back.
Federal Judge’s verdict on a separate case labeled the FBI’s forfeiture notices as “anemic,” citing violations of the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees due process. In response to this injustice, Linda joined hands with the Institute for Justice to file a class-action lawsuit challenging the FBI’s forfeiture practices. The campaign aimed to bring attention to her story and the urgent need for transparency and accountability in civil asset forfeiture cases.
Thanks to the digital advertising expertise of Ads for our Future and the support from Topple Ad Network, the campaign served 6,586,142 impressions and garnered 19,276 clicks, with a market value of $54,551.08.
Notably, the campaign’s Click-Through Rate (CTR) of 0.29% was 81% better than the industry average of 0.16% for contextually targeted display ads. This incredible engagement demonstrates the public’s genuine interest in issues surrounding civil asset forfeiture reform.
“We are incredibly proud of the impact our work for the Institute for Justice has achieved in partnership with Topple Ad Network.
